Do you can see love making art and of course an artful gift. Also I love to paint, draw and sketch. I have been drawing and painting for most of my life, and have fallen in love with the practice of creating art. After that, I took studio art lessons for many years growing up, and learned how to create art that reflected a range of feeling, emotion, and memory. As a beginner, I learned to recreate still life scenes, bowls of fruit and ornate table settings. As I progressed with my lessons, my teachers permitted me to be more imaginative with my work. I was no longer required to recreate a scene that I did not choose, a scene that was placed before me by my teacher. As my skills advanced, I was suddenly allowed to paint my family, my dog, my childhood home.
Create Your own art
I have so many memories of my years taking art lessons. I also remember how challenging classes were at times, how my hand cramped after a long evening of endless painting, how my work wasn’t always well received. While I acquired skills that helped me become a better artist, the thing I have carried with me the most, is my ability to create my own art. Before I started taking art lessons, it seemed I doodled on everything, attempting in whatever way I could to make something, anything.
As I got older, and grew in my drawing and painting skills, I was able to create art that conveyed deep emotion and memory. Suddenly, I was capable of painting a scene from a birthday party, a family reunion, a basketball game. I was able to create and give life to the things that meant the most to me. I painted a portrait of my family when I was ten. The painting is still hanging in my parents’ house today!
An Artful Gift
When I think of what it means to bring a memory to life, I think about the amazing ability to make art. We have the power to make our own artwork intimate, special, and packed with meaning and memory. You can make Art in so many ways. To make art, we are not limited to paint, to sculpt, to draw, or to sketch. We can share photographs, videos, or pieces of written work. Art is so personal, and our creation of art should be personal, too.
As the holiday season approaches, we are all thinking carefully about how we can both create and give art. I love the idea of writing a story for somebody you love, as a way to share memories and convey meaning. I have also been thinking about creating photo albums or scrapbooks for friends and family. It seems that endless gift opportunities abound in the approaching holiday season. It can be a challenge to find the right gift for the right person. I have found that creative gifts, that are somewhat more personal in nature are always a hit.
