So, before we get any further in understanding this day, and continue speaking about the meal that the day is named after. Let’s first briefly touch on the origins of the “sandwich”.
Many say it was named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. He claimed that he was the inventor, and ever since the name just stuck, and no one never really challenged him on his claim.

Whenever he became hungry, it is documented that he would request that one of his servants bring him slices of meat between two slices of bread. This way of ordering bread and meat became synonymous with Lord Sandwich, and eventually all of his fellow gambling friends would also request the same meal as “Lord Sandwich”.
This process eventually grew in popularity, and this was how the “sandwich” was born. A simple request gave birth to a meal that so many around the world enjoy on a daily basis.
Lord Sandwich was a man who was dedicated to the Navy, Politics, and the arts. The was basically an aristocrat who would always enjoy a good sandwich whenever he had the time to, which was basically whenever he wanted to have one being that he was high on the social ladder, and economically he was able to have the means to have the best meat, and highest quality bread.
Although bread with two pieces of meat, or two pieces of cheese with meat had been around for centuries. The term “sandwich” wasn’t coined, and used to refer to this meal, until it was done by Lord Sandwich.
Today a sandwich doesn’t even necessarily have to contain meat or bread. You can have an ice cream sandwich. Furthermore, you can consider an oreo cookie as a “sandwich,” although it is a cookie.

A sandwich today is anything with the same thing on both sides with anything different in the middle. Hamburgers with two buns and meat on the inside is also somewhat a sandwich. Every morning people will wake up to their favorite breakfast sandwich, it’s a great gift for yourself.
